Kappa Mikey review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:56 (A review of Kappa Mikey)

Kappa Mikey, like Perfect Hair Forever, is an anime parody. Unlike PHF, this is family-oriented. Fish-out-of-water American up-and-comer Mikey Simon wins a contest for the "LilyMu" show, and ends up one of the biggest stars in Tokyo. His castmates include the jealous prima donna Lily, potential love interest Mitsuki, tiny costume-bound director Guano, and the big lovable lummox Gonard. The LilyMu Five go through a lot of hilarious escapades, some of them you might have seen before in other shows and movies, but are still funny. The anime-inspired humor is the icing on this cake. Chibifying, sweat-drops, the works, all of them that makes this show a decent parody at the least, but a pretty good one at best.

Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:51 (A review of Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure)

Big Boogey Adventure is a made-for-TV movie based on the Billy and Mandy series. Grim gets his reaping privileges revoked after creating property damage in Endsville, thanks to the Boogey Man, who wants revenge after Grim beats him in a scaring contest in one episode. The jokes are pretty funny, especially the recurring joke of Numbuh 3 from Kids Next Door as the substitute reaper. If you liked the B&M show, then you'll enjoy this movie.

Danny Phantom review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:46 (A review of Danny Phantom)

When Danny Phantom was first announced, I got excited to see it, and when I saw the first episode that aired... my expectations sank a bit. This isn't exactly a bad show since it can be funny and I liked 3 of the antagonists: Vlad, Ember, and the Box Ghost, but the animation is INSANELY fast-paced, which is kind of distracting, and some of the characters can be rather irritating, especially Mr. Lancer early on in the series, which is sad since he's voiced by Ron Perlman. I also like the allusions to Ghostbusters, one of the greatest movies ever made, so I'll let this show slide, especially since it's popular on Nickelodeon.

Neon Genesis Evangelion review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:40 (A review of Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Evangelion might have had an impact on the anime culture, but I think it's incredibly overrated, rather pretentious, and most of the time, just downright mean-spirited. Why? Here, we have Shinji, a kid with self-image lower than a mud-encrusted doormat. I can buy Asuka being hard on him since she's the hot-blooded Tsundere type, but everyone else? Unacceptable! And then there's Rei. She's hard to explain, but she's the only character I actually feel sorry for despite her apparent lack of emotions. Everybody knows of the classic "Mind Rape" episode, but the episode afterwards was where the entire series went straight to hell. Why? Because Dr. Akagi had the audacity to destroy Rei's dummy plug and kill her clones because of some affair she had with Shinji's father Gendo, while the current Rei gets killed by one of the Angels! And that REALLY pissed me off. And seriously? This was marketed to kids? This isn't exactly a Don Bluth movie we're talking about. Evangelion would scar children for the rest of their natural born lives! I don't recommend this, personally.

Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:19 (A review of Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew)

While a lot of Pokemon fans liked this movie, I... not exactly as much. Don't get me wrong; it may not be the best Pokemon movie in my opinion compared to everyone else's, but it's not the worst. The animation and some of the visuals are nice, and the back-stories for Lucario, Mew, and the Tree of Beginning work. On the other hand, the character Kidd Summers is a rather pointless character as she and her supervisor from... wherever, contribute very little to the story except for making things worse. Had it not been for her, this could have been among the best Pokemon movies in my book, but...

Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:11 (A review of Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys)

Pokemon Destiny Deoxys focuses on a boy named Tori, who learns not to be afraid of Pokemon after an accident involving a herd of Walrein. There's also not one, but two of the titular DNA Pokemon. The comic relief, in the form of Plusle, Minun, and Munchlax (who evolves to help Ash in the climax) are good. The one downside is the sheer antagonizing of Rayquaza, which is ironic since in Pokemon Emerald, it quells the conflict of Groudon and Kyogre. Despite this, I consider it the best of the Hoenn Pokemon movies.

Pokemon Heroes: The 5th Movie review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 09:04 (A review of Pokemon Heroes: The 5th Movie)

Pokemon Heroes is the last time that the Pokemon movies would be good for 7 years. This is the first movie to use a setting based off of a real world location, specifically, Venice, Italy. And again, the visuals are AWESOME! The best parts focus on Latios and his cute little sister Latias, the latter who seems to take a liking to Ash. This movie comes as a close 2nd to me of the movies dubbed by 4Kids.

3rd time's the charm, but not like the 2nd

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 08:59 (A review of Pokémon 3: The Movie - Spell of the Unown)

After the awesomeness that is Pokemon The Movie 2000, we get something that came so close: Pokemon 3. There's one problem that doesn't make a lot of sense: why did the Unown kidnap Molly's father? They had no motivation; they were antagonists for the sake of plot. And Molly herself, while somewhat bratty once she wishes for a mother, specifically, Ash's mother Delia, isn't really an antagonist, but someone who had lost the two people she loved. Entei isn't an antagonist either even though he captured Delia for Molly because despite being an illusion created by the Unown, actually cares for Molly. Not quite as good as the last film, but I'll forgive it.

Ed, Edd n Eddy review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 06:51 (A review of Ed, Edd n Eddy)

Ed Edd n Eddy isn't just a highly realistic show (or at least on the surface), but it's also a highly cartoony show. This is a Cartoon Cartoon classic, up there with shows such as Johnny Bravo and The Powerpuff Girls. The characters are exaggerations of what kids are really like from creator Danny Antonucci's point of view, the content is wacky yet awesome, and don't get me started on the use of sound effects that add to the comedy.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 06:47 (A review of Aqua Teen Hunger Force)

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a weird show, but I like weird stuff, and boy-howdy, is this weird. Here we have the cocky Master Shake, the beleaguered genius Frylock, and the naive goofball meatball known as Meatwad. The three of them, as well as their grumpy Casanova neighbor Carl, go on insane, off-the-wall adventures with things such as a giant robot rabbit, mothman-brownie hybrids, and 8-bit aliens from the moon. If you have 11 minutes to kill, than this is one of the shows for you.
