My Brother The Pig review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 11:03 (A review of My Brother The Pig)

This is a pretty odd film. I saw it because I had a kid brother that bothered me and he used to make pig snorting noises, so logically, I saw this film, and I REGRET IT.

Basically, you have this boy who loves to pull pranks when one day, while getting what looks like a gigantic bowl of ice cream or whatever, an object that belonged to his equally bratty older sister's friend turns him into a pig, which leads to them going to Mexico, where the friend's ancestors came from. I wish I was making this up. This movie makes no sense, it's stupid, and overall, it's forgettable.

My rating: 3/10

99 minutes of a cliched but cute story

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 11:02 (A review of Baby's Day Out)

Baby's Day Out sounds like that Hollywood is starting to run out of ideas and started resorting to turn a Tom & Jerry short into a film. That's true, but tell that to countries such as India, where the film is surprisingly popular. It's hard to beat up on this movie since there are some likable side characters such as the gorilla at the zoo and the veterans that the baby comes across. Overall, it's just one of the ways to kill 99 minutes.

My rating: 5/10

John Hughes, Why? D'8

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:58 (A review of Dutch)

What do you get when you cross the director of Ferris Bueller's Day Off as the writer, and the director of Crocodile Dundee as the director? You get a movie that is the butt of a couple of jokes on Married.. With Children called Dutch. This is one of the weaker scripts written by John Hughes. It's dark at times, in fact, not even The Breakfast Club would be this dark. I'm sure the late Hughes has tried his best to make a variation of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but ultimately, he failed. Not exactly the worst movie I've ever seen, since the fireworks scene is the highest point of the film, but I have no interest in seeing this again.

It's Tough Being A Girl

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:52 (A review of Just One of the Guys)

The premise of Just One Of The Guys sounds inviting, but the actual movie... is not to my expectations. I like the idea of Terri disguising herself as a boy to go undercover for a newspaper report, and I found the "itchy balls" line from her brother Buddy kinda funny, but the rest of the movie isn't really funny enough, and Terri's ex-boyfriend Kevin is the most annoying character in the film, and he pops up in several scenes just to argue with her. At least this movie tried to keep us entertained and the ending paid off well.

They get along better than me and this movie

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:47 (A review of The Fox and the Hound)

As a kid, I remember watching The Fox and the Hound, and for some reason, being somewhat bored by it. Don't get me wrong, this is nowhere near Disney's worst. I admire the friendship message in the first half of the movie, but it's all for naught in the second half. Not to mention that in the original book, Tod and Copper weren't even friends, but hey, at least they didn't die at the end of the film. Despite a pretty good cast and a couple of cute moments, I still thought that this movie was boring and depressing half the time.

Pizza (2005) review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:42 (A review of Pizza (2005))

This... is a strange movie. There is this chubby girl named Cara-Ethyl, who has just turned 18 and starts going out with a pizza-delivery boy. While the premise might be a bit odd, the movie is incredibly tasteless even for the standards of its PG-13 rating (which is ironic since pizza is one of my favorite foods, delivery or frozen, especially Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and DiGiorno). However, I admire the anti-cocaine message, even though it wasn't cocaine, but sugar, the rest of the movie is not so good.

Sailor Moon S review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:19 (A review of Sailor Moon S)

In my opinion, the best of the Sailor Moon series. The writing is tighter, the characters are more realistic, and the powers used in this one are much cooler than in the first 2 seasons. It starts off much like how the series typically goes, but throw in the mysterious Sailor Senshi Uranus and Neptune, and you make it a bit more complex. Chibi-Usa, an initially despised character to Western audiences, is at her best in this season, because: 1. She's a Senshi-in-training, and 2. She makes friends with another character, Hotaru Tomoe, who is not only the daughter of the crazy Dr. Tomoe, but Mistress 9, which makes things complicated not only for Chibi-Usa, but for the rest of the Inner Senshi, who occasionally clash with Uranus and Neptune over what the right thing is to do. This season gives us the message that cynicism almost never works in a situation, which is good to me, and I dare not spoil what happens in the final parts of it, but let me assure you that it all works pretty well.

Sailor Moon R review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:18 (A review of Sailor Moon R)

Continuing from where the original left off, the R season... isn't as good as the first one. The filler arc with the Cardians is somewhat weak compared to the Rainbow Crystal arc from the first season, and several fans had problems with Chibi-Usa, who, until the end, came off as a bratty, whiny child that gets in the way. The worst part is that because Mamoru fears that Usagi will die if he stays with her, he breaks off their relationship despite that he still loves her either way. The upside is that Chibi-Usa, as well as Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus (the original protagonist) all get some rather meaty character development. Not as good as the first season, but the last thing I stated makes up for it.

Sailor Moon review

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:12 (A review of Sailor Moon)

Sailor Moon was a huge success with girls everywhere. Our protagonist, despite some of her flaws, is actually pretty likable as she's trying to achieve her goal of having love conquer all. The romance between her and Tuxedo Mask is very captivating, sad, and hopeful despite the obstacles created by the antagonists. A great way for this series to start off on.

A+ At Best

Posted : 11 years, 4 months ago on 30 December 2012 10:02 (A review of Azumanga Daioh)

Azumanga Daioh is cute, funny, and has lovable, memorable characters. We have the cutesy genius Chiyo-chan, the serious-natured Yomi and her contrast, the hot-blooded Tomo, the oddball Ayumu a.k.a. Osaka, the tall shy Sakaki, and the athletic Kagura. There's also their immature teacher Yukari-sensei and her friend/rival, gym teacher Nyamo. My favorite characters are Chiyo, Osaka, and Sakaki. This is a show where you can relate to some of the characters, and is worth watching.
